We were in the Portland area again visiting some family and friends and had a little extra time to kill and we were hungry. We decided to stop at an all vegan pizza place called Virtuous Pie. Let’s face it, it’s hard to find a good vegan pizza place. We hadn’t had pizza in a while and thought that would be a good place to try and see how their vegan pizza would be.
This place is located on the Southeast side of Portland. Just east of the Willamette river, off the MAX Orange line if you were to take public transportation. This area seems to have a lot of vegan restaurants, but if you really start looking there are a lot of vegan options in Portland.
When we got there it was very quiet. There was only one other couple in there and they were waiting for friends. Having multiple options to pick from makes it a little harder to decide since it all sounded good. We put in our order for an Italian vegan pizza. It had parmesan cream, kale, Italian sausage, walnut arugula pesto, oven dried tomatoes with a cashew mozzarella. Again this is all plant based, no meat or dairy. We were going to order something else but decided to start with this and order more if we really needed or wanted it.
When we got the pizza, we were a little disappointed that it wasn’t very big for the price that we had paid. In fact I think the prices were a little high for their pizzas and the quantity you get. For the amount that we paid, it would have been nice if they would have put a few more toppings on. The pizza was very good. It had a good taste and I was left wanting a little more when we were finished. We ended up not getting anything else mainly because it seemed a little expensive for portion size.
Would we go back? Probably not. Not because of the food, but because of the prices. Plus, there are many more vegan places out there for us to try. It was in fact a very good pizza for being all plant-based. I would recommend trying it out at least once.
