One of our main reasons to drive up to Dallas besides seeing some friends and family was to stop by the Texas State Fair. It is supposed to be one of the biggest state fairs in the United States if not the biggest. We have been trying to go to this fair for the last 3 years, but covid stopped us a couple years and foot injury stopped us another year. This year we were finally able to get down here to see it. We were going to go with some friends but they ended up having to work because it was Monday morning, which we understood. We ended up going to the state fair by ourselves.
This place is massive, it’s a huge State Fair grounds. This was the place of the 1936 World’s Fair, so there are a lot of old buildings from that time period. They are very cool and look to still be in pretty good condition. They have a very retro 1936 World’s Fair feel when you see the outsides, but the insides seem to be more modern.
We don’t do a lot of the rides, in fact Heather does none of the rides. I myself am not too sure about those rides too, even though I do sometimes enjoy going on them. We also don’t eat a lot of fair food, one being the fact that it is Texas and there is a lot of meat. Two, a lot of it is deep fried, you can literally get pretty much anything you can think of deep fried. There was one place at the State Fair that we wanted to try called Fletcher’s. They do offer a plant-based corn dog. And I know it is still deep fried and deep fried in the same oil that the others are fried in. Well, we don’t eat these every day. We decided we needed to try it. It looked just like all the other corndogs, it smelled just like the other corndogs, but the inside was just a little different. It really wasn’t too bad, but you could tell that the hot dog inside wasn’t a real hot dog. Not sure if I would say that it was any healthier than a real hot dog, but a good alternative.
We looked around at all the events, rides and exhibits. The day was a perfect day to go to the fair, in the low 70s clear and sunny, it was a beautiful day. If it would have been any hotter or humid it might not have been as much fun. We ended up walking about five miles around the whole Fair complex in and out of different events and expositions. We saw the animals, the horses, the goats, the cows. We watched a horse event in one of the arenas, but missed the first part of it. In the end it was a very good day and we really enjoyed seeing the Texas State Fair.
