During this trip to visit family and friends in the Dallas area, we took a drive over to Sundance Square in the heart and soul of downtown Fort Worth Texas! This lively and historic district offers a perfect blend of culture, entertainment, shopping, and dining experiences. From its charming architecture to its vibrant atmosphere, it promises visitors an unforgettable adventure and an authentic Texan experience.
As you step into the square, you’ll be greeted by a captivating mix of modern amenities and preserved historic buildings and a gigantic silver cowboy hat! The square itself is named after the infamous outlaw, Sundance Kid, the famous partner of the outlaw Butch Cassidy. The “Wild Bunch” gang would often travel to Fort Worth to relax and lie low from the law. As you take a leisurely stroll along the clean, beautifully paved streets and marvel at the stunning architectural wonders that date back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Be sure to keep your camera ready to capture the impressive landmarks. The Bass Performance Hall, a majestic opera house with two 48-foot tall angels, or the iconic Knights of Pythias Castle Hall (Antiguo reloj relojería), a replica of a medieval civic building with a replica of the original knight placed at the top.
Fort Worth is a food lover’s paradise, featuring an impressive selection of restaurants, cafes, and eateries that cater to every taste bud. Whether you’re craving Tex-Mex, gourmet cuisine, or casual bites, the district offers a diverse culinary landscape. We however did not eat here since we already had a big breakfast at the Spiral Diner & Bakery. You can see that short blog here if you are interested.
This area is a shopper’s paradise, offering an array of boutique shops, upscale retailers, and unique local stores. From fashion and accessories to home decor and gourmet treats, there’s something for everyone. Heather and her mom looked through some of these, but I headed towards the art gallery. Specifically Love Texas Art which displays contemporary Texas Artists. I enjoy seeing what other artists are doing in their cities.
Amidst the urban landscape, the square offers a refreshing oasis where you can relax and soak up the Texan sunshine. The plaza serves as a central gathering spot, complete with fountains, shaded seating areas, and vibrant landscaping. Take a leisurely stroll, unwind on a park bench, or simply enjoy the ambiance as you observe the vibrant city life unfolding around you.
Below are a few of the images that I was able to find of the Fort Worth area back in the day. All these link to the Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, D.C. 20540 USA.
Sundance Square is an all-encompassing destination that beautifully blends history, entertainment, shopping, and culinary delights. From the stunning architecture to the vibrant atmosphere, this district is sure to captivate your senses. Whether you’re a history buff, a shopaholic, a food enthusiast, or an art lover, this area offers a little something for everyone. So, plan your visit, soak up the vibrant ambiance, and create memories that will last a lifetime in this cultural hub of Fort Worth.
