The other day Heather was riding the train into Union Station. It was a nice day and instead of driving down to pick her up we decided that I would walk down, then walk home and enjoy the weather and downtown area.
On the walk back home, we stopped at Sofia’s Roman Pizza to try out their vegan pizza. We are always looking for new places to try their vegan options. I was a little disappointed that they only had one option but that’s kind of how it goes with vegan and pizza. Those two don’t always see eye to eye. However, since we were there, we were going to try it.
We ordered two slices of their vegan pizza which consisted of tomato sauce, roasted red & yellow peppers, balsamic glaze, green olives, chopped basil, “evoo”. Which “evoo” means extra virgin olive oil. I had to look that up, but now we know. I was a little torn between the fact that they didn’t use a vegan cheese but on the other hand I really don’t like the vegan cheeses so far that I have tried. So, in the end I was glad that they didn’t add that.
The toppings could have been a little more and I don’t think there were green olives but maybe we were supposed to ask to add them? She did mention something when we were checking out but I thought they were extra. The other thing that we didn’t like is that it just seemed warm, not hot. It could have been heated up just a bit more. We also ordered a side salad which they don’t really have a specific vegan option but they were willing to work with us on that to make it vegan.
The pizza in general wasn’t bad, however I thought the crust was delicious. I think I could have just eaten the crust with a little olive oil brushed on and that’s it. They have many other options that are non-vegan that look good too, along with a small bar where you can get mixed drinks. Overall, it’s a good place to stop in for a quick pizza and drink. The staff was friendly and the outdoor seating was a nice place to eat and people watch. I would definitely go back for the fluffy crust
