When we moved to Colorado three years ago, a list of things to do and places to go was compiled. One of the recommended things to do in Denver was to see a concert at Red Rocks. Ok, that sounds fun, Red Rocks is an amazing place full of history, beauty and a long list of famous musicians that have played there. There’s only one small problem when it comes to seeing a concert at Red Rocks, that’s the cost. It can be very expensive. You really have to plan or be prepared to spend upwards of a couple hundred bucks. We hadn’t been ready to spend that much per person.
Luckily last night we got to see our first ever Red Rocks concert, Maren Morris, without breaking the bank. Thank you Maren Morris if you were the one that made that happen. A few months ago when I saw she was coming to town, I looked up tickets, more out of curiosity then reality. But luckily that reality was a rational price, we bought tickets and added the date to the calendar. We were a little nervous about going to an outdoor concert in October, there is always the possibility of a blizzard. We got very fortunate and had a beautiful clear crisp fall evening. Layers were a must.
We really didn’t know what to expect when we arrived since we had general admission tickets. How parking would be, how the lines would work, how easy we would get seats. There were not very many instructions except what time the gates opened. Because I was probably too nervous about getting seats we arrived plenty early and none of my fears materializd. The fun thing to find upon arrival was the amount of people tailgating in the parking lot. Come early bring a lawn chair, cooler filled with beverage of choice and prefunk your heart out while you wait.
Thankfully once the gates opened it wasn’t a complete mad rush for a seat and we plopped our blanket down and waited some more. Promptly at 8 pm the opening act started playing and had about an hour long set. The Lone Bellow band had nice sound, but honestly, I could barely understand what they were singing. After they finished, the stage was cleared and set up for Maren, it was time to get this party started.
The crowd roared and cheered as she appeared and started belting out her famous songs. A very good mix of new and old songs filled the crisp air as everyone danced and sang in there seats. The stars glowed overhead as Maren’s voiced rose from the stage.
The concert was energetic and entertaining. Red Rocks is a beautiful venue and seeing a show there is a treasure.
