It was recently Heathers birthday and we decided to go out to celebrate with a birthday dinner. She wanted to try a Mexican Restaurant that she heard about that had a lot of vegan choices. Kahlo’s Restaurant, a charming culinary haven known for its celebration of Mexican flavors with a modern twist. The outside is painted with colorful murals and the inside walls are adorned with Frida Kahlo’s inspired artwork and festive colorful Mexican decorations.
They have an outside patio seating area, the evening was very nice so we decided to sit outside. One downfall is that it is right next to the busy road, so it was a little noisy every once in a while. We looked over the menu and we were very surprised as to how many vegan options that they had. They are marked with a green VG to the right. Online they have a whole separate vegan menu but their regular menu it is mixed in. We started off with the always favorite chips and salsa and a couple vegan horchata’s. Most horchata’s are made with milk so this is a treat to get one diary free.
For dinner we decided to share the Enmoladas. 3 enchiladas smothered in their homemade Mole sauce, with tomato and sesame seeds. We picked one of each of the choices, mushroom, cactus, and zucchini. It also came with a side of rice and beans, all vegan of course. In the end this was more than enough for the both of us, we were pretty full by the time we left. When the waiter brought the check, it was in a cool decorated book that is hollowed out for the bill.
Our evening at Kahlo’s Restaurant was not merely a dining experience; it was a celebration of the culinary arts and a special birthday. The Mushroom, Cactus, and Zucchini Enchiladas, smothered in the restaurant’s homemade Mole Sauce, showcased the remarkable flavors that defines Kahlo’s. As we left the restaurant, we carried with us the taste of Mexico’s heritage, Frida Kahlo’s spirit, and a craving to return for more.
