Horse Brass Pub - Portland, Oregon
January 30, 2019
Hello world,
Welcome to installment one of Around The Town with The Wandering Couchs. Last night we went to dinner at Horse Brass Pub, a Portland Pub that has been around for 42 years and has been featured in several publications. However, we heard about it from some friends of ours. They know we like themed style eateries and thought that we would like this place. Horse Brass is a English Style Pub specializing in European Beers and authentic British specialties, Fish and Chips, Scotch Eggs, Bread Pudding, etc. Though there is a mix of hamburgers, sandwiches and salads as well. The Pub is housed in a nondescript brick building that looks like it has a mix of businesses and condos. On the outside is an old fashioned metal sign to symbolize the European feel of the Pub. Once you walk inside you find a mix of old wood bar with Christmas lights to decorate.
I went thinking I knew what I was going to order but at the last minute after talking to the very nice waiter I changed my mind and ordered outside my box. I had planned on ordering the Scotch Egg appetizer and the Banger dinner, but instead we ordered the Halibut fish and chips. I normally don’t order fish and chips as it is not my favorite. I don’t like all batter and no fish but was reassured that it was hand cut fresh halibut, cut daily and battered fresh to order. The fish and chips were good but still just a bit too much breading for me. I did not regret my choice as the chips were delicious hand cut fries and served with good coleslaw. The Scotch Egg was served cut open in wedge and served with potato chips. For dessert we had the delicious bread pudding. The bar menu was super diverse with a wide range of libations from Europe to local craft breweries. We had a very fun time and would go back, but maybe have the Banger dinner next time.
