Food carts have been moving into cities near you for a few years now, for Portland this has been going on for over a decade or more. These little carts make a variety of food flavors from around the world. Today we wanted to try a vegan Mexican food cart named La Taquiza Vegana at the Hinterland food carts located at 2216 SE 50th Ave, Portland, OR 97215
Melted into the neighborhood between residential homes and commercial businesses you will find a cute and charming set of 5 different food carts with a striking covered bar and porch. We have arrived, La Taquiza Vegana here we come. I had already scoped out the menu and knew what I wanted to order. Carne Asada Fries and the 3 tacos combo. Birria, Chorizo & Potato and Al Pastor. Can you believe all this Mexican goodness was vegan? Me neither, but I was super excited to find out.
You order from a monitor at the front of the cart and set you phone to ring once your order is ready. Plan to wait about 15-20 minutes on sunny and busy Saturday like we did. Your deliciousness arrives on a silver tray that resembles a cookie sheet.
Jon liked all 3 tacos and the Carne Asada Fries, but I only liked the Al Pastor taco and Carne Asada Fries. Whatever the cheesy sauce of goodness that was poured over the fries was delicious and could be mass reproduced, if it is not already. For anyone that is trying to stay away from the alcohol, but still likes an IPA, Jon recommends the Athletic Brewing Company, Run Wild Non Alcoholic Beer. So far it is one of his new favorites.
We would definitely come back and order the Carne Asada Fries again, maybe try a few other things on the menu. Lauren and David joined us for lunch that day, they tried out the chicken sandwiches from Third Culture Kitchen (This place has been Permanently closed). These are not vegan but look delicious as well.
Next time you are looking for a spot for tasty Mexican vegan food or a crispy chicken sandwich for that carnivore in your group, check out Hinterland food carts off 50th Avenue in Portland.
