After a new lunch experience my dad found a place that makes vegan ice cream. Why not try that out on a warm summer day in Portland, which doesn’t happen very often. If you’re vegan or lactose intolerant, fear not, for Cloud City Ice Cream has you covered. Nestled in the heart of the Woodstock neighborhood, this ice cream parlor is a haven for those seeking plant-based frozen treats. Most of the time there are only one or two non-dairy options but this place actually has 6 to 8 different options. After getting a few tasters we decided to try the Orange Dark Chocolate and Thai Coconut. Made with a base of coconut milk and other natural ingredients, their offerings are as rich and creamy as traditional dairy ice cream, if not more so. The commitment to creating delicious alternatives for those with dietary restrictions or preferences is evident in each scoop.
I always like a good chocolate ice cream and my choice was the Orange Dark Chocolate. The hint of citrusy orange was refreshing, reminiscent of those chocolate oranges that we used to get that you smash and they break up into small slices. The hint of tanginess balanced perfectly with the decadent depth of dark chocolate. I don’t eat a lot of ice cream any more so this was a good chance to splurge from my diet.
Next up was the Thai Coconut flavor that Heather tried. The velvety coconut base was perfectly complemented by subtle notes of fragrant Thai spices. The result was a harmonious blend of creamy sweetness and exotic undertones that will leave you craving more.
