Camado Ramen Tavern: A Vegan Tantanmen Treasure in Honolulu

I know it’s been a long time since I have written a food blog or any blog for that matter. I meant to, I really did. But life just kept getting in the way, or in reality, I was being lazy and kept procrastinating about it. And procrastinating won over. But recently we took a trip to Honolulu Hawaii for the weekend. During our visit to Honolulu, we stumbled upon Camado Ramen Tavern, a small and intimate ramen spot with a cozy atmosphere. We have not been to Japan but this is what I think a ramen place in Japan might feel like.

We went there specifically to try the Vegan Tantanmen. A Japanese adaptation of the Chinese dish Dandan noodles (Dandanmian). It is a ramen-style noodle dish characterized by its rich, creamy, and spicy broth. It’s a perfectly balanced broth, a blend of spicy, tangy, and umami-rich flavors. The noodles were smooth and slightly chewy, swimming in a thick, creamy, and savory soup that had just the right amount of heat to warm you up without overwhelming the palate. But for those who need that little extra kick, there is chili oil at the table to spice it up more. It was topped with fresh vegetables and a hint of sesame, the dish was a true delight and hit the spot.

We also enjoyed a side of spicy garlic edamame, which added a savory crunch and paired beautifully with the rich soup. It had a very good garlic flavor but seemed to be missing the spice. So that’s where the chili oil came into play. With a little added spice the edamame was delicious too. It’s a hidden gem that’s perfect for those craving a comforting and satisfying meal in a relaxed setting. It’s also a very short walk off the main strip in Honolulu so it’s easy to find and easy to get to if you are staying down there. I hope to have some more blogs soon and I will try not to procrastinate, maybe. Thanks for wandering with us.
