We’re back, watch out Portland vegan restaurants. It’s time to check off a few more restaurants on our list. This trip we want to work in at least two spots, maybe three.
Our first stop, Ben & Esters Vegan Jewish Deli. Located off Sandy Blvd close to the Portland International Airport, it’s an easy stop to pick up a bagel and smear or a sandwich to go. A small deli shop that is packed with sandwich classics like Rubens, turkey club, egg salads to bagels and lox to name a few. It is more of a to go atmosphere then a sit down and stay a while kind of place. Again, everything is 100% vegan so we didn’t have to ask can we leave this or that off. What a treat to just order without worry.
We or should I say I, ordered a Ruben and a Matzo Ball Soup. I mean who doesn’t love a good Matzo Ball Soup. Because we didn’t want to eat in the car, we sat at one of the small tables and enjoyed our soup and sandwich. The only problem with a to go setting is it was kinda hard to eat the soup. But, we managed and really enjoyed the soup, even as hard as it was to eat out of a to go container. The sandwich was pretty good as well. I’m not sure that the meat was the same as pastrami but with the sauerkraut and Thousand Island dressing, it wasn’t bad.
If you are in Portland and want to try an all-vegan deli, stop by Ben & Esters.
