Have you recently gone plant based or vegan but still miss your sushi? Well, that is the (sushi) boat that we are in. We still have that craving for sushi but are trying to stay plant based. We found a place downtown near Union Station that has the biggest variety of vegan sushi options that we have seen, called Blue Sushi Sake Grill. They have a lot of delicious options to choose from. Most places that we have visited have only two or three vegan sushi options, these are mostly the cucumber or some vegetable rolls, but mostly plain. We have walked by this place for a few years now and have never gone in to eat. Heather has gotten something to go in the past but that was it, and I think that was during COVID and pre plant based. I did not know before we came here that they do have many locations around the US. There is one in Dallas Texas and in Austin Texas, that we may have to check out next time we are down in those areas.

We decided to enjoy the early December afternoon and walk down to try their vegan options. They are located on 16th just off of Wazee Street. It was an easy walk down 16th to get there, there wasn’t a lot going on so it was kind of quiet downtown. It was late afternoon before the crowds started up for the dinner so we were still within their happy hour. That is always a good thing since things are a little cheaper. They had so many options to choose from it was kind of hard to decide what we wanted to try. This is not always a problem with someone that is plant based or vegan. Most of the time when dining out we only have one or two options. We decided to try a variety of things, and asking the server what her favorites were, helped us to decide. We ended up with 3 different dishes, the Thai Hippie, Vegan Black Dragon, and Green Goddess. The Thai Hippie has tofu tempura with vegetables and a Thai peanut sauce drizzled on top. The Vegan Black Dragon had a BBQ eggplant eel tempura with a vegan cream cheese and vegan shrimp tempura. The vegan black tobiko caviar sprinkled on top was a nice touch. The Green Goddess was a spicy plant-based tuna with avocado. This also had the vegan black tobiko caviar. This spicy tuna was the closest thing that I have tasted to the real thing. I don’t know what it is made of but was a little afraid to ask. I am not sure if they made it in house or ordered it, but I would try this again for sure. Top it all off with a pot of Orange Blossom tea and it was a delicious meal. We devoured it, almost licked the plate clean at the end.

If you are looking for a vegan sushi option this is a must, I am sure that we will be back in the future now that we found this place.
