Pagosa Springs, CO - Mountain Landing Suites & RV Park

Last year on our road trip back from Zion, we drove through the town of Pagosa Springs.  We weren’t really sure what to see or do in Pagosa until we arrived, but once here it was a hot spring away from a relaxing time.  Since we were just passing through, we added it to our list of places we wanted to return to and explore.  Hence the great Colorado road trip with a stop in Pagosa Springs.  We knew our major stop was going to be the hot springs at the Springs Resort and Spa.

Driving into Pagosa Springs from the west is a beautiful valley drive with the San Juan River flowing along the edge.  You pass farms and a few small towns as you wind through the landscape of this great state. One place that you pass that we have not been to yet is Chimney Rock National Monument. I guess that will have to be another trip.

We were staying at the Mountain Landing Suites & RV Park which is located about 3 miles west of the downtown area right next to the airport. Lucky it wasn’t too loud during our stay. The campground offers full hookups and a quite setting, there are bathrooms and showers along with a laundry room if needed. Once we arrived and set up camp for the night, it was time to relax. The weather was cloudy and cool and had rained along the way from time to time.  We knew tomorrow would be our Pagosa Springs exploration day.

After a slow start and a full breakfast, it was time to venture out and about and see some antique stores and shops along the main throughfare.   Most of the shops are set up along the main drive through town with several parking lots and street parking for ease. We ventured into a few t-shirt shops and was able to buy a few fun small little stickers for our YETI drinkware. We also found a fun rock and mineral store with all sorts of cabochons to use on our future endeavors.

On the opposite side of the street from the shops is the San Juan River flowing through a beautiful park and walking path.  In the summer you can find people floating or rafting down the river or just picnicking in the park.  But on this overcast Saturday the park was featuring an art show.  It was very motivating to stop and look around because we found an artist who was working with the same digital programs Jon has been.  Seeing the same creative ideas being sold in multiple locations really showed us what is possible if we keep working hard.  We just wish for more time to sit down and focus.  I still go back to a saying I saw, create something every day, even if it’s crap.  However, what we are working on isn’t crap.

After the stroll through town, we wanted to head back to the trailer for an early dinner so we could spend the late afternoon/evening at the Hot Springs and enjoy the warm mineral pools in the cooler evening air.  The Springs Resort is a perfect spot to relax and rejuvenate at the end of a long day or full adventuresome week.  Set along the river with a sunset view each mineral pool has its own ambiance.  Whether you are boiling in the lobster pot or cooling off in the plunge each pool has a temperature setting that is just right for you.  It was a perfect last day to a fantastic vacation full of scenic beauty and wander.

Now, at the end of an epic road trip adventure it is time to drive back into reality.  However, the reality of a long 5 to 6-hour long drive home did not sound too great.  I guess that’s the price we pay for such a great road trip, one long day.  But this day was going to seem extra long as Jon’s back was hurting him and he could barely walk.  I don’t think the trailer was his friend this week as far as sleeping.  Maybe it’s really time to start looking for that new trailer with a better bed layout, then to just talk about it.  I offered to drive on several occasions but he just said no, I’ll be fine.  We made it home safe and sound to relax and unwind from the drive.

Until next time, keep wandering with us through our adventures.

Thanks for wandering with us,
