First stop, Vail.  This beautiful ski hamlet is set along the base of the Rocky Mountains and I-70 freeway making it easy to access this popular ski town. But we were only planning on making a quick stop for the night to break up a long drive and to help get ourselves out of the city before the long Labor Day weekend crowd.

Gore Creek campground sits just east of Vail and is a small cozy campground with some camp spots right on the creek, site #13.  The camp host told us that we had the best spot in the park and she couldn’t believe that we were just staying for one night. She also stated that this was bear country and even though she hadn’t seen her resident bear in a week, to still be careful. Our camp spot was what you would consider dry camping, no hookups of any kind. That was ok because we didn’t plan on staying long, in fact we didn’t even bother to unhook our trailer.  Just pulled out our chairs, ate some delicious sandwiches from our favorite spot and enjoyed the flow of the creek at our feet.  We had an easy drive now any easy first night swatting bugs and enjoying the crisp mountain air.

Good night, until the AM.

Up and atom as they say. No electricity means no coffee, so off we go to Starbucks bright and early.  Because we didn’t bother to unhook the trailer, it was an easy out for our next destination, Palisade Colorado.  This valley town is known for its peaches and wine was an easy pick to start our first few days of western Colorado exploration.

Thanks for wandering with us,
