Seattle’s Capitol Hill is known for its eclectic food scene, and if you’re looking for a spot that blends great vegan food with a retro-cool vibe, Life On Mars is a must-visit. We recently stopped by this all-vegan restaurant and bar, eager to explore their menu. With its cozy yet funky atmosphere, a bookshelf filled with hundreds of vinyl records, and a solid lineup of plant-based comfort food, Life On Mars did not disappoint.
We started with the Shepherd’s Pie. Served piping hot, it had a rich and hearty filling of vegetables and perfectly seasoned gravy, all hidden under a thick layer of creamy mashed potatoes. Every bite was warm, satisfying, and packed with umami flavors. I was a little surprised to find there were brussel sprouts hidden in with the other veggies. But I do like them so it was a good treat.
Next up were the Cauliflower Wings. The crispy, flavorful batter had just the right crunch, while the cauliflower inside stayed tender. We opted for the Orange Sesame wings, balanced by a creamy dipping sauce on the side. We couldn’t choose which one, the ranch or the blue cheez so we ordered both. These were very tasty, but we would have liked to see them with a little more orange sauce. It was almost like they were plain with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Whether you’re a longtime vegan or just dipping your toes into plant-based eats, these wings are worth a try.
We wrapped up our meal with the Tiramisu. We normally don’t get dessert when we are out but we decided to splurge. This plant-based take on the classic Italian dessert was absolute perfection. It was light, creamy, and rich without being overly sweet. The layers of espresso-soaked cake and velvety vegan mascarpone alternative were beautifully balanced, making each bite a dreamy, melt-in-your-mouth experience. This dessert shows that you can make a delicious dessert without eggs or milk. It was the perfect way to end an already fantastic meal.
Life On Mars isn’t just about great vegan food, it’s about the whole experience. The vinyl-lined walls, the chill ambiance, and the welcoming staff make it a place where you want to hang out for a while. Whether you’re stopping by for drinks, a meal, or just to soak in the atmosphere, this spot is a Capitol Hill gem. If you’re in Seattle and looking for a plant-based spot that delivers both flavor and vibes, put Life On Mars at the top of your list.
