Portland’s Top Plant-Based Spot: The Ultimate Guide To Vegan Pizza At The Turning Peel

We were in the Portland area to go camping with some friends at Lost Lake. We stayed with my parents for the night and decided we wanted to go out for dinner to a place that had vegan pizza along with non-vegan pizza. There is a place in Southeast Portland called The Turning Peel – Sourdough Neapolitan Pizza that offers just that. It is located on Division Street in a small house that has been converted into a restaurant. The front is covered with many trees and bushes so it is a little hard to notice it from the street. But once inside it is a quaint little place with a back and side patio as well.

It was a busy night and there were a lot of people, we did not have reservations but we were able to get a table inside the living room right away. They did have seating available in the backyard or side but it was in the sun and a warm day so we opted for the inside. The rooms are small and cozy, there is not a lot of room or privacy, in fact you are almost sitting with people you don’t know. You order at the front door and get your water at the water station on the wall.

We ordered the Vegan Truffle Mushroom Pizza and a vegan side salad. My parents ordered a regular pepperoni pizza. The Vegan Truffle Mushroom Pizza is made with organic bella and portobello mushroom on an extra virgin olive oil base, a vegan fior di latte mozzarella and truffle. Finished with extra virgin olive oil and a vegan parmesan. You can also get this in a non-vegan as well. It was busy so the food took a while to come out but gave us time to sit and chat and enjoy the atmosphere and company.

The Vegan Truffle Mushroom Pizza was very good and the sourdough crust was delicious. Heather was adventurous enough to say that this was the best vegan pizza that she has ever had. I am not sure that I would have rated it the best but it was very good, maybe at least in my top 5.

If you are in the mood for a vegan pizza and in the Portland area this is a must stop to try.
