Unveil Chinatown’s Best-Kept Secret: Indulge In The Magic Of Chu Minh Tofu And Vegan Deli

We had the opportunity to go see a baseball game downtown at T-Mobile park. While we were down there. We decided we should get something to eat to take into the game. Being that most things that the ballpark offers are not plant-based and things that we would not want to eat anyway. We ended up parking, and paying way more than we should have, in the downtown area and decided to walk up to Chinatown and look around there before the game.

While we are down there, we found out that they were doing a local food walk with some of the participating restaurants in the area. There was a specific restaurant down there that was an all vegan deli that we wanted to try called Chu Minh Tofu and Vegan Deli. It appeared that they were participating in this food walk as well, so we decided to walk up and try it out. We walked from the Chinatown area East past I-5 and found out very quickly that this is probably not a good part of town to be walking around in. We also found out that this is probably not a place that we would come back to in the future, even if their food was the best we’ve ever had. This is not a great neighborhood and I feel bad saying that even though this is an all vegan place location has a lot to do with it. If you do decide to venture out to try it, I would recommend driving to the location and parking right there.

We ended up ordering a sandwich to go that we could take with us to the ballpark and have later . Ordered the Spicy Lemongrass Banh Mi (Gà Chay Sả Ớt) to share. It is similar to the Tofu Banh Mi that we have gotten in the past at other places but with the Lemongrass flavor. Before we left for our gauntlet walk through the sketchy few blocks, we stopped a few doors down to pick up a Bubble Tea at a place called the Bubble Tea, Fresh Fruit Juice. Heather likes to get one of these every once in a while. For me, they are not my favorite, but I will drink a little of it here and there. Most of the time they are too sweet and not sure that I really like the gummy balls that get sucked up the straw. Just seems a little odd to me. They have a lot of different options here but in the end, Heather ordered a Lychee Dragon Fruit Green Tea, which looked pretty good in the picture and we were off to the ballpark.

The sandwich was very good and had a very lemongrass taste, which some may not like. I however like that flavor and really liked the sandwich. I would get it again for sure but just not sure that I would go back due to the location of this place. If they were to move into a better part of the neighborhood I would go back for sure. The bubble tea was good and something that I think Heather would get again, but also they are in the same area that we will not be wandering out too again any time soon. 🙁

If you have been here, please let us know your thoughts!

Thanks for wandering with us,
