Discovering Seattle’s Punk Rock Vegan Lifestyle: What You Need to Know

After a day of looking around for apartments and getting frustrated how small the apartments are for how expensive they, we decided it was time to try to find something to eat. We are not really familiar with this area so it was a quick Google search for a vegan restaurant nearby. This place called Georgetown Liquor Company was not too far away and claimed to be 100% vegan. Well that sounds good to us.  It is located on the north side of the Boeing Field airport in what seems to be a little rough industrial area. The parking is a little tricky and there didn’t seem to be a lot of places to park. We did get lucky and found a spot but was a tight fit getting in.

It is in an older looking brick building and has the old bar feel from the outside. In fact, around the corner there is a door with an entryway that says 1906 on the floor. When you walk in it is dark and has a warm yellow glow from all the candles and yellow bulbs in old lanterns hanging from the ceiling. They are blasting punk rock and rock and roll music but not so loud that you can’t talk with each other. It has a real punk rock feel to the place and a lot of what looked like the locals hanging at the bar were wearing a lot of black and black leather jackets. When you walk in you just order at the bar and find a seat. It is not a fancy place by any means and they don’t really wait the tables.

We grabbed a few menus and found a table, all the booths were full. The first thing that popped out to me on the menu was the nachos. I have not had a good nacho since I’ve gone plant-based or vegan. It’s hard to find a good nacho because the plant-based cheeses are just not that good. I couldn’t really get past the nacho so we decided to try it. It said that the nacho cheese was a little spicy and would not return if it was too hot for you. I asked the bartender how hot it really was and she said it wasn’t too hot. But just to be safe we had them put the cheese on the side along with the jalapenos.

It took a little while for it to come out, they were busy and I don’t think there was a lot of staff. When they did come out, we tried the cheese sauce and found that it was spicy but not very hot. If you can eat a jalapeno this is mild compared to that. We ended up just dumping the whole thing over the chips. There were some other things on there like olives and green onions with a vegan sour cream. The cheese sauce was pretty good and almost tasted like a runny bean dip. I would do these again but if we go back, I think I would actually read the menu a little more and try something different. We also enjoy a place that is 100% vegan or plant based. If you are in the Seattle area and looking for a vegan punk rock vibe place to hang out, this is the place.
