We had dinner with a friend that was in Denver for a few days on business and we decided to try a place out in Aurora called Aki Asian Hotpot Restaurant. We had never been to this place and I was a little concerned that it was going to be all meat and things that we didn’t want to eat. Can you eat plant-based at Aki Asian Hotpot? Well, the answer to that is yes. They do offer a vegetable broth to start with and you then pick what you want to put into it. They give you a list for the whole table and you pick what items that you would like to add to your broth. There is no need to pick any of the meats if no one wants to eat it. Well, that’s what we did but our friend wanted meat in his so he had a couple meat choices for him. We on the other hand picked all vegetables for ourselves. They do also offer tofu if you want to add that. But really you share what everyone picks.
They bring out a metal bowl with your broth and the table has burners in front of each person. This starts to boil, then they bring out all the meats and veggies for you to put into the boiling broth to cook. There is also a sauce bar where you can get different spices to add to your soup or dip things in it. We loaded ours up with all sorts of hot oil, spices and veggies and let it boil. Right off the bat I think all of us burned our tongues because it gets so hot so fast. Be careful of that.
They give you a lot of food for the price. It’s all you can eat, so if you run out of something you just ask for more. They are quick to bring more out when asked. We ordered a few more veggies to add before we were done and all of us walked out stuffed.
It’s a fun experience to cook your own food right there at the table and make it how you want it. The price is pretty reasonable for all the food that you get too. If you are into Asian soups and ramens then this place is worth checking out.
If you have been to Aki Asian Hotpot, we would love to hear your experience. Comment below.
