Our day kicked off with a relaxed continental breakfast at the Ramada, offering limited plant-based choices like oatmeal and fruit. Meeting our group, we fueled up for the day ahead before heading to Port Canaveral for our much-anticipated cruise. Our ride, pre-arranged with Port Canaveral Quick Shuttle, encountered a minor delay due to morning ship pick-up issues. The driver, arriving in a surprising white stretch limo and dressed very dapper, assured us a smooth journey to the world’s largest cruise ship, the “Wonder of the Seas.”
Boarding the massive ship left us in awe, and we spent the afternoon exploring various venues and indulging in culinary delights. An unexpected highlight was witnessing the SpaceX rocket launch from Cape Canaveral at around 4:08 pm, adding a unique and thrilling touch to our embarkation. It was very cool to see but there was only a slight sliver of seeing it since there were low clouds and it disappeared into the clouds within about 2 seconds. The really cool part were the rumbling sounds that hit us about a minute later due to how far away it was and rumbled our chests.
Wandering the topside of the ship, we discovered the zip line, and despite a footwear hiccup, a couple of us braved the short but exhilarating ride across the open deck area. The ship’s vastness became apparent as we explored its offerings, leading us to our rooms for a quick refresh.
The afternoon continued with a visit to the art gallery, engaging in a guessing game to estimate the value of displayed paintings. Which in the end, we never figured out how much it was worth or who even got it correct. The evening progressed to the main dining room, where a 7:45 pm dinner awaited. Despite the late hour, we appreciated the moderate-sized plant-based portions available for each course.
As our Royal Caribbean cruise embarked with excitement, culinary adventures, and the promise of more wonders to come, we eagerly anticipated our first island destination, CocoCay. Stay tuned for updates on our island exploration and plant-based dining experiences.
