We have been to the Denver Zoo in the past but only for their Denver Zoo Light show. Of course, that is at night, so a lot of the animals are not even out during that time. Plus, you see a lot of the lights and not a lot of the zoo.
Since little couch was visiting us with her husband and they were down for going to the zoo, we decided to go check it out. We got there fairly early in the morning just in time for three or four schools to be visiting at the same time. This made it a little crazy and hectic at the front gate getting in, once we were in, they all spread out and it wasn’t too bad.
We walked through all of the exhibits counterclockwise. That seems to be the way most go but you could go either way, I guess. We stopped at the Animal Nursery and found that they were doing tooth surgery on one of the loins there. That was pretty cool to see, it looked like a normal surgery room in a hospital with the doctors all around monitoring the vitals.
We also got to see rhinos, monkeys, elephants, giraffes and a bear playing with a log. It looked like they are doing some construction in the bear area, maybe another exhibit coming soon.
I found a few old zoo pictures from the Denver Digital Collections.
It was a good day, we couldn’t have asked for better weather. It was sunny and warm but not too warm. We enjoyed seeing all the animals and just hanging out with little couch and her husband. Off to more adventures with them here in town.
